Friday Drama Club and Youth Theatre is back, currently meeting all ages together - 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Woking Leisure Centre đ
On Saturday 10th March 2018, our Youth Theatre returned to the Godalming Music Festival to defend their title in the Speech and Drama section. This year, they were also accompanied by the Lost for Words Drama Club, for their dĂ©but appearance at the festival, at Priorâs Field School, where the festival took place, along with other groups from the surrounding areas.
This yearâs competition was incredibly close. The title was âRefugeesâ, which prompted stunningly powerful performances from all groups involved... See more. with none scoring below 85%! The adjudication from Mia Ball, gave special mention to the particularly dramatic interpretation of Shylockâs speech, which was adapted for this piece and beautifully brought to life with a physical performance devised by our talented students. With a mark of 89% and a distinction, the Lost for Words Youth Theatre earned their second festival win in the under 18s category and, once again, raised the Godalming Music Festival - Dedman Cup for best overall group performance.
But they were not alone. Competing in the under 12s age group, with a piece entitled âJumble Saleâ, the Lost for Words Drama Club produced an equally enjoyable and polished performance. They told a story of children raised in a childrenâs home. With special mention to their lively opening and confident use of space, Mia awarded the class a score of 88% and a distinction, earning them first place in their category and second overall.
Not only was this their first festival win, but it was their first ever festival! and only the second festival for our Youth Theatre. Needless to say teachers Kathie, Sean and Freddie, who run drama classes for children in the Woking area, are once again incredibly proud of all of their students, including those who helped devise the pieces but were unable to make the performance.
Plans to enter future festivals are already underway, please contact us if youâd like to be kept up to date with future performance.
